Spotlight on Success: Steven Abram

When asked how my career has impacted my life, I can’t help but think “what an understatement.” Because becoming an Industrial Painter with the IUPAT has not only changed my life, but the lives of those around me.

Some people know my story and others don’t. This opportunity was literally a second chance at life for me. You always hear people say, “an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay.” I never quite knew what that meant until I started working for Avalotis.

You work hard putting in that sweat equity and you learn so much. Plus, it provides you a wage that allows you to actually be able to provide for your family. This has allowed me to become the role model I’ve always wanted to be.

Coming from where I come from, you don’t see a lot of people working, let alone in Unions. So being able to motivate and inspire the youth and show them there’s other ways to make it out means the world to me.

I feel I’m fulfilling my purpose here on Earth. Showing people who come from where I come from, and look how I look, that there’s an alternative route. So when I say “it’s an understatement,” I mean it. I’m proud to be a member of the IUPAT.
