Last Friday, DC 57 drywall finishing coordinator Monica Dunn participated in a Women in the Workforce roundtable to speak about both the challenges and opportunities facing women in the trades. Monica noted that during her more than 13 years as a finisher, she’s “seen plenty of women who come in, and they crush it. They come out and do great, and they push through.” Now she’s in a position as a Finishing Trades Institute (FTI) instructor to help shape the next generation of IUPAT members from all backgrounds. As we enter one of the busiest construction periods in recent memory, we will need all the workers we can get, and recruiting women into our trades is a major key for the continued success of our District Council.
